December & January Update

“Be still and know that, I am God.”

~ Psalm 46:10

Mambo!

Hello from Kenya!

Life here is certainly never dull and as I've had time to

enjoy the Christmas season in Kenya and travel for

work in the new year I have so much to be thankful for

and have seen God at work in so many new ways.

S. Sudan Trip

Neil and I had the privilege to travel to S. Sudan for 10 days and see all the work that God is doing through our team there. We heard story after story of the impact teammates have had on the community.

One of the main purposes for me joining on this trip was to be able to capture footage of the women's discipleship that our team has done for many, many years. As the culture there is very much gender divided, Neil on his previous trips had never been able to film what I was able to capture. This time with the women's bible study was incredibly inspiring. Their hunger for God's word speaks volumes about how much God is at work in this community of women. After we finished the bible study we were invited for tea, followed by coffee, and then enjoyed traditional Sudanese dishes. All the while these women were huddled around their bible continuing to ask questions and sing hymns of praise. This time in S. Sudan was such a blessing to me as I was able to quietly reflect each day on what I was seeing and I was so moved and impacted by the communities absolute desire to see God change their lives.

EAST POKOT TRIP

Before Danielle left, we were able to have a whirlwind roadtrip to East Pokot to visit Peny. This was a very special trip, since having met Peny in June I was so encouraged by her story. Danielle spent so much time editing that video; so for us, to be able to go and experience East Pokot for ourselves and dance with Peny in the desert, was an incredible moment.

As we visited the communities and broke bread with the people, we got a glimpse of how they've embraced Peny as one of their own and been truly impacted by the her display of God's love. I can't fully put this trip into words, but maybe a few photos will help.

CHRISTMAS IN KENYA

This was my first real experience having a warm snowless Christmas, and it was really special. All of the families here welcomed me in to join them in their family traditions. I spent Christmas Eve with my colleague Neil and his family who have quickly become close friends. I learned how to make tamales, which is their tradition and we took a drive through the Nairobi National park after the kids nap time. For Christmas, I was able to join the Wilson family for the day and enjoy delicious food, games and working on a puzzle.  I went camping with Neil and his family for a few days and spent New Years in the Masai Mara with a friend of mine who is another single lady serving with SIM. The holiday season was very different from my usual time with family, but I was overwhelmed by the loving community I have been so blessed to be part of here in Kenya.

Climbing Mount Kenya

Another item on my must-do list while in Kenya was to climb Mount Kenya! Terri, Danielle and I set off on our 5 day trek up the second highest mountain in Africa. This was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. I couldn't get over the diverse beauty in the changing landscapes and to spend quality time with Terri and Danielle before they left was so special. This was for sure a highlight that I will never forget.

Passion Project

Over the course of the 8 months Danielle and I had together in Kenya, we started working on a passion project to capture our time together. This sums up the vast amount of experiences we were able to share and as I enter a new chapter with new roommates, new work opportunities, and some unknowns ahead, I look back at this goofy fun video and am in awe of how God gave us this opportunity to explore Kenya together and create life-long memories.

I hope you enjoy a video that we certainly had so much fun making.

Prayer Requests

Pray for my new short-term roommates! Pray that their time here would be transformative!

Pray for guidance for me in next steps as I think about my time in Kenya and what God has planned for me next.
