"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."
~ Romans 15:13
Hello from Kenya!
It has been a very full few months in the best way. And
I certainly have a lot of updates to share with you this
time around!
Every 3 years, all of SIM's leadership gathers for a
conference to connect and refuel as we move forward
together with a shared vision. This year Global Assembly
was held in Kenya and Neil and I had the fun task of
capturing the event and producing a video to highlight
what Global Assembly is all about. We had a blast taking
on the challenge of filming and editing all together in
the course of 2 days of the 3 day conference, so that
this video could be played at their closing ceremony. It
was a challenge that we both had a lot of fun with!
As a team one conversation we've been having is how we can produce more stories in different ways. So often there are so many stories to share and simply not enough time on many of our trips. Madagascar was a great example of that. Adrian heard about a surgery the hospital does and was so moved by it, he took a few pictures, posted it to his instagram; but as a team we thought maybe there's a way we can share this further. So, something we are trying is creating audio stories. It gives us freedom to be able to share a few more stories that otherwise we just don't have the time to properly capture interviews and footage for. I invite you to check out "The Dress" and hear about how the Good News Hospital is changing the lives of women in Madagascar.
In September two of our team members, Neil and Adrian had the opportunity to travel to Madagascar and film several videos for The Good News Hospital there. I am so thrilled to be able to share one of the videos from that trip with you. This video provides a wonderful overview of the work the team is doing there! I encourage you to check it out and there will be many more stories to come that highlight the impact of having a hospital in these more remote areas.
You may remember back in my June newsletter I was starting to edit a piece called "Put Your Hand In" which was about the Mabaan community receiving the complete bible in their heart language. Well on our trip we were able to collect a few missing pieces to the story and I now am able to share that video with you! This story was one I loved putting together and as a team we were all able to "put our hand in" to bring it to completion. Enjoy!
I have a bit of news to share and that is that I am planning a trip to Nigeria in June for 5 weeks, to
help the team at SIM Nigeria produce several video projects. This is a trip that I am very excited
about because it feels very much like God's timing. What you may not know is that back in 2019
when I was first starting to have conversations with SIM about going to serve abroad, Nigeria was
the first country presented as a place that had a lot of media needs. I had been very much
considering this opportunity and then COVID-19 hit and everything was put on pause. When things
eased up in 2021 and I was re-opening conversations with SIM again, the SIM Stories team had
formed in Kenya and everything at the time really fell into place for me to join them. I felt God's
leading to East Africa instead of Nigeria.
Well, we move forward and in July 2022, while I was here in Kenya the SIM Nigeria Short-Term
Coordinator and his family came to the compound in Nairobi for some family vacation time and we
got to talking. It turns out that he was the one I had been having many Zoom calls with back in
2019 and so we started discussing the idea that maybe after all this time I could still come to
Nigeria to produce stories because they still had such a need. So over the last several months this
trip has been starting to take shape.
However, along with this trip comes my next bit of news that I will be looking to
extend my time in Kenya!
As you know I was originally set to come to Kenya for 1 year and return at the end of April, but
those plans are very much shifting. I've felt for a while now that my time with SIM and serving in
East Africa is not finished yet. And this opportunity in Nigeria is very much part of that. The current
plan is to extend my time until late November so that I can travel to Nigeria and have time with the
team in Kenya to edit those stories as well as participate in a few more projects our team has lined
up for this year.
I have been so thankful for all your support thus far and it is all so appreciated. In order to extend
as long as I hope to I do need to raise an additional $10,500 by the beginning of June.
I hope you would prayerfully consider continuing to partner with me on this journey. If you would
like to make a financial donation, the link is below. Again, thank you for all your support and know
that I am truly so grateful for all the ways I have felt and seen your support over the last year.
