September to November Update

Habari!

Hello from Kenya!

It has been a very busy season since my last update

and there is a lot to share! I have already passed the

half way mark of my time here and I am looking

forward to what this next few months will have in store!

MADAGASCAR, MOFFAT, AND MORE

Our team has certainly had a lot of projects going on! Neil and Adrian travelled to Madagascar to film a variety of stories from The Good News Hospital and have started editing those stories together. I can’t wait to be able to share those with you as they captured some incredibly powerful stories of the work being done through the staff at this hospital.

We had the chance as a team to head out of town to Moffat Bible College and film testimonies that the school will be able to use as part of their outreach programs. It was a great road trip day and we were able to bring along our media team intern, since he will get to tackle editing this story!

So much more is going on as we are in pre-production to create a series of Sports Friends Drills videos that will be used to help train coaches internationally. I am working on editing some brochures to be used as outreach tools. There is also lots coming up in the new year and our team has spent some time meeting about our goals for the future and looking at the big picture of what we want to accomplish as God leads during this next season.

Story 1 - A Story of Forgiveness

I had the privilege of editing this video and after spending so much time with the Lufani family, it was great to see their story come together. in this video. It was a fun challenge to capture the vision of SIM Malawi and Sports Friends in this video through the story of the Lufani family and how their actions directly impacted their community. It is a real picture of what living out your faith can do to a community. Danielle and I had a wonderful time meeting John and Agness and spending time with them while we were in Malawi. I hope you enjoy their story!

Story 2 - Simple Ball, Simple Faith

Coach Frackson was such a joy to meet! He was full of life, smiles, and energy and Danielle and I loved getting to see how much the community loves him. This video was edited by Danielle and it has been a story of faith that both of us have been touched by. We loved our time in Salima, Malawi, and being able to get creative with our filming and capturing this story in a meaningful way. Coach Frackson was so much fun to be around and we could see just how much of an impact he’s had on his community and how much love he has for the people he is surrounded by.

Story 3 - From Thief to Coach

This story, Danielle and I were truly able to tag team to bring to life! We both felt such a connection to this story and loved getting to film it, that we decided we needed to work together in editing it. Chinkwita was quiet at first, but warmed up to us and our cameras and was so willing to share his testimony. It’s hard to imagine he was once feared by the community because walking around his village with him, we saw how much people cared for him. It’s a beautiful story of transformation and a testament to the impact sports ministry can have.

Fun Moments

With Danielle leaving mid-December we have been very busy fitting in as much as we can! We were able to take a quick weekend trip with Terri to Amboseli National Park where we saw lots of elephants, as well as a view of Mount Kilimanjaro! I still have yet to see cheetahs so there will be more game park visits in the future! Danielle and I were able to head to the coast for a bit of R&R by the ocean. It was a great weekend full of swimming, good food, and even some cliff jumping! We also ran our first ever half-marathon! It was a true test to our perseverance since our running team had a few injuries to overcome, but we did it!

It’s been a busy few months, but it has been an absolute blast as we continue to enjoy the work we have to do while still finding time to experience all Kenya has to offer.

Prayer Requests

  • Pray for wisdom for our team as we think about future/long term planning

  • Pray that the stories we have completed from Malawi and Madagascar will be encouraging for those who watch and that they will be a useful resource for SIM International

  • Pray for this time of transition with Danielle leaving and new short-termers coming in the new year
