"For He has satisfied the thirsty soul,
And the hungry soul He has filled with what is good."
~Psalm 107:9
Hello from Kenya!
I can’t believe I have already been here for 4.5 months. It has been a very full July and August with lots of activities going on both for work and for fun! I’ve been taking all the opportunities I have to see more of Kenya and I’ve certainly been enjoying every minute of it!
In July I had the opportunity to visit two SIM Missionary families who are serving in Isiolo, which is in the centre of Kenya. The purpose of this trip was for Danielle and I to go and spend time learning about the work they are doing and see what potential stories we could tell about how God is moving in that area. Over the course of the 4 days we spent with these two families we were so encouraged by the stories of the pastors and churches that these missionaries have been discipling. We were blown away by the testimonies of the people and the heart of the missionary families who have been serving in Isiolo for 7+ years. God is so active in the lives of the people there and I am excited to see where God leads and what stories we can share about that area of Kenya.
July was also full of preparation for our trip to Malawi that was in August. Danielle and I traveled to Malawi to film three stories of coaches who are part of the Sports Friends Ministry. It was a very full 10 days, capturing these stories and exploring that beautiful country. We had an incredible time with these families and communities and were able to spend time fellowshipping with them and getting to know them better. We spent most of our time in the capital, Lilongwe where two of the coaches were located. Our third coach was located in Salima, which is close to Lake Malawi.
Even just getting a small taste of Malawi was enough to see why it has the nickname “the warm heart of Africa”. All the people we met truly welcomed us and we had a lot of fun with all the kids who were very interested in seeing what we were doing with cameras.
We are back from Malawi and are ready to dive into the post-production part of the process to complete these three videos over the coming months. Each of these coaches have such powerful stories of transformation and we cannot wait to share these stories with you.
One of the bonuses of being a short-termer with SIM is that we are all assigned a mentor for our time here. My mentor was spending a few months over the summer on the coast to have more intensive language study, so Danielle and I took a trip out to visit! We had a great time seeing more of Kenya, swimming in the ocean, snorkeling, and enjoying some fresh seafood!
While in Kenya I knew I had to visit the Masai Mara and see if I could snap photos of the Big 5! Danielle and I along with two other SIM Missionaries headed to the Masai Mara for the weekend to enjoy a few game drives and they did not disappoint! On our drives we did manage to see all of the Big 5, which includes; lion, rhino, buffalo, elephant, and leopard. But we also got to see the great migration and caught some wildebeests and zebras crossing the Mara river as they travel between the Serengeti and the Masai Mara. It was truly an incredible site and we were so fortunate that weekend to see all these animals!
• Prayer for the editing process of the Malawi project, that Danielle and I would be able to tell these stories well.
• Prayer for two of our SIM Stories team members who are traveling to Madagascar for another project.
